The Only Way to Respond

I happened upon my glasses,

lying on a bench,

in a room,

far, far away

from any of the places,

where they would most likely

be retrieved,

next morning.

Where does memory go?

Of glasses worn

only hours ago?

Of pens just picked up

minutes ago?

With all those minutes

spent looking,

only to find the pen,

in a most ridiculous place,

the ensuing scoff

and shake of the head,

the only way to respond.
