Red

At dusk,

cardinals

fly past the windows,

in seeming pursuit

of one another.

Twilight red,

feathers flashing,

colors slowly fade,

until at last,

cardinals tuck and roost,

somewhere,

beyond our sight.

Angled light,

at dawn,

cracks open

the night,

cardinals

flying straight

out of the shadows,

into the sun,

rising,

morning red.
