Ode to 144 Old Palisades Road

Cliffs,

to look out from,

to climb down

and back up again,

to dream from,

to feel safe on top of,

to watch ships coming up river

and lights coming on

across those waters,

in a city of mysterious power.

A house,

to grow up in,

just feet away

from the edge of those cliffs,

drafty rooms,

steep stairways,

a million windows,

from which to gaze out

to the gardens,

the fish ponds,

the wisteria arbor,

the magnolia tree,

and the view

from the cliffs,

that encouraged us

to become adventurers,

forever seeking,

what we had,

growing up,

on

cliffs.
