The Pair of Them

The pair of them,

 outside the kitchen window,

earth layered with seed.

He arrives first,

picking among discards

and husks,

picking for himself.

She arrives within seconds,

and near him,

chooses, too.

Then,

he hops to her

with a seed of quality,

perhaps,

tilts his head

in delicate consideration,

and she accepts.

They stay,

beaks in fluid sway,

back and forth,

in dancing touch.

Then,

she departs,

 a direct flight

to the back fields,

and without hesitation,

he follows.IMG_6014 IMG_5275
