The Predator’s Way

There is a hawk,

two more likely,

their cries

from the heights,

sky: in circles,

floating,

tree: in stillness,

waiting,

the yard full of bounty:

little birds,

dashing chipmunks,

squirrels,

and rabbits.

The hawklets,

newly hatched,

will take the pieces,

gently offered,

and very quickly,

learn

the predator’s way.
