That Grackle Tried

That grackle tried,

back and forth,

with wisps of grass

and twig,

but the winds

and horizontal rains,

that blew in at dusk,

wiped the nest away.

I can hear that grackle now,

in some sheltered lea,

beginning again,

with grass and twig,

to build a nest,

where wind and rain,

will be whispers,

that beckon and lull,

in the dreams,

of

waking chicks.
