Left Standing

Anger,

in lightning pinches,

along the narrows,

the tide coming in,

lightning drawing close,

until

hitting the tallest tree,

by the lake,

it splinters and falls,

a giant shard,

left standing,

its crown in pieces.

The storm has passed,

and me,

still angry,

at a breach of trust,

someone I held high,

crown touching the sky,

lightning strikes,

a giant shard,

left standing.
