Of Course

I’ve lived inside

this cage of carol,

for sixty-one years,

yet there are still,

surprises,

and maddening responses,

urges so urgent,

they block the sun,

a total eclipse

of reason.

But,

I’ve come to expect,

these moments of baffle,

and that is how I know,

I’m coming to know,

myself,

and it’s with

wry compassion,

that I can  say:

of course,

of course.
